"Bookmobile of the Future" Contest
bookmobile-of-the-future Imagine what a "Bookmobile of the Future" would look like. Children ages 5 through 12 are invited to participate by drawing a picture and entering our "Bookmobile of the Future" contest. Pick up an entry form from your favorite Bookmobile stop. When your picture is turned in, you will receive a chance to win the grand prize for your age group. All pictures are to be turned in at your Bookmobile stop by February 27.

Spelling Bee
Challenge yourself with words! See how well you spell in a competition with others your age, or cheer on your favorite speller. This event, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 13, has been changed to Saturday, February 20 at 10 a.m. to 12 noon for students in Grades 1-3, and 2 to 4 p.m. for students in Grades 4-6. All spellers must be residents of Rochester, Rochester Hills or Oakland Township. Only spellers need to register beginning February 6. Confirmation numbers are required. Eighth Grade Essay Contest

aauw-poster-2010inddThe Rochester Hills Public Library and the Auburn Hills Public Library are co-sponsoring the AAUW Rochester Branch's Eighth Grade Women's History Month Essay Contest. The theme is "A Woman of Significance to Me." A student entering the contest should answer the question: What personal goals am I able to pursue because of the influence of a woman, either past or present? The person chosen as a subject of the essay could be a family member, a teacher, someone in the community or a historical figure who has opened new pathways of opportunity to your generation. For more information, please view the informational flyer and the entry form. Applications are also available at both libraries. The essay submission deadline is March 10.

Library Lovers’ Month Trivia Contest @ RHPL
001_libraryloverslogoFebruary is Library Lovers' month, and we want you to love your library even more! Take a shot at our daily trivia questions, and for every correct answer you will be entered into a prize drawing at the end of the month. Most questions can be answered using the library website and electronic resources. Questions will be posted every day on RHPL's Facebook wall. You can view the wall by clicking the Facebook link at the top of the library homepage (www.rhpl.org) or, better yet, by becoming a fan of the library on Facebook. Anyone is welcome to play, but if you are chosen as a winner you must be able to pick up your prize at RHPL in March. Prizes will not be mailed.

RULES:
  1. Questions can only be answered on the day they are posted. E-mails must be received by 11:59 p.m.
  2. One answer, per person, per day.

Healthy Families: Food & Fun
Is your family in a mid-winter slump? Do you need help coming up with ideas to get your family moving and eating in healthy ways - despite the wet wintry weather? Powerspeak Languages simulates a gradual immersion method where learners go from their native language to a new one through a series of gradually immersive stories and activities. It's fun and easy to use even if you've never studied a language before. Powerspeak Languages is available 24/7 to anyone with a library card who lives or works in Rochester, Rochester Hills or Oakland Township.
